For instance how it could be commercialised, how it solves a market need and how there might be a business to build around the idea.

Crime Sheep

Crime Sheep aims to make New Zealand crime statistics much more interesting and accessible for the general public. We believe that by raising awareness around crime statistics we will be challenging people to rise above what may be expected of them or their peers and beat the odds.

Our target users are young people between the ages of 15-19 because they are generally tech savvy and are in a more impressionable position in society as they are moving from adolescence into young adulthood. We believe that because of this they are more likely to be positively influenced our project.

Fill the Gap

Team Name:
Fill the Gap

Our primary source of data was the skill shortage list by immigration. We also used rate of attrition and enrollment by age data- from education, median income by industry from stats nz (LEED). These things helped us identify the need for our solution and design the form it would take.

We believe education is timeless. The education system doesn’t operate that way. The sage on the stage is struggling against the digital guide in our pockets.

Problem Statement

There are two major aspects to our problem statement:

During an emergency:

1)       There is no single platform where an individual can seek information.

2)      There is lack of community collaboration and people helping each other.

Solution

Introducing What's Next

What’s Next is a digital service that supports a high school student’s decision-making by guiding them through the different options.

Why we decided we needed to make What's Next

Deciding what to do after high school is difficult and made harder due to a lack of helpful support.

Everyone around has an opinion but this can make things complicated.

There are a lot of resources available but few are up to date or easy to use.

My Vote

Team Name:
Team My Vote

To develop an electronic voting system.

There is currently a large proportion of enrolled New Zealand citizens (over one million) who did not manage to vote. The point of the electronic voting application is to enable and encourage those who did not vote in the last election to participate in the next election; simutaneously to provide a set of tools for separate voting problems like the flag referendum.

The data to be used: past enrollment and voting data;
