Team Name:

A web based system to decrease pressure on hospital emergency rooms and keep patients informed of thier expected wait times and when they are likely to be treated. Emphasis is placed on keeping the patient informed on thier expected treatment time and streamlining hospital data entry allowing patients to fill in admission and ACC forms without being present at the hospital.

To facilitate a more patient friendly emergency department we are focusing on the following areas:

  • Distributing emergency room load.
  • Online data entry.
  • Keeping the patient informed of their wait time and the best hospital to attend for treatment in relation to capacity and wait-times.

The web service promotes the following process flow:

  1. A person is injured
  2. Using the service, the patient locates the hospital with the least emergency room patient load.
  3. The patient fills out admission paper work online.
  4. The patient is issued an estimated treatment time.
  5. The patient is continually notified of any changes to their estimated treatment time.
  6. The patient is alerted as to a time to arrive.
  7. The patient arrives, the receptionist reviews and confirms the data from the online admission.
  8. The patient is treated in a timely manner.
  9. The patient is discharged.

We are using  data from the Ministry of Health and TrendCare workload management systems. TrendCare is the management system used by Wellington and Hutt district hospitals  and is operating in 121 Australian based sites, 50 New Zealand sites and 17 South East Asian sites.

Over the couse of the weekend we were unable to gain access to the TrendCare API . We have used data inferred from the TrendCare API in an effort to highlight the necessity of a secure unified government API .

We decided to take this route to identify the need for open access into data sets that can provide solutions to existing problems. We validated the concept with numerous industry folk, and believe the idea is valuable to both the patient and hospital.

Thanks for the awesome weekend, we had a great time!
